It wasn’t too long ago that I was a brand new teacher. I remember talking with my classmates as they ran the gauntlet of fire that is the first year. It seems that an expectation of many first year teachers is that they will follow a colleague closely and use many of her or his materials. Consistency across the department is great, but what about teachers in small or fragmented departments?
Pre-service teachers can finally fill their toolbox before they leave the frying pan and enter the fire. The raw lesson ideas are here, along with many ways to adapt and mold them to fit your specific objectives and constraints. As you grow as a teacher the materials can grow with you, helping you increase inquiry and expand the lessons with more rigor, greater technology integration and cost-saving ideas. Biology Rocks! might be the best textbook you pick up this semester.
